until our road trip!
Well the planning has begun for our road trip to San Diego in May 2012. Kay and I have decided that I am going to take off from work for 20 days. Yes 20 whole days of sun and fun with each other. As you can see from the countdown timer above Kay and I are getting closer and closer to our departure date in May. For this extended road trip we are leaving the SUV safely parked in the driveway and will be firing up the roadster for our first of many to come wild and fun adventures as we drive across America along the infamous Route 66… In preparation for our adventure Kay and I have been performing a lot of research on the the numerous destinations, sites, and must see favourites along the Mother Road. Our research includes combing the numerous websites that are dedicated to the Mother Road as well as the various state websites for road maps and points of interests. So far we have found a wealth of information and recommendations to aid in our trip planning. So far our various stops. side trips, and Round trip mileage will be around 8,000 miles from Norfolk, Virginia to the golden coast and back. You may be asking yourself why we decided to take our trip in May instead of June through August. Kay and I decided on May for several reasons, with the first and most important reason is the weather should be in the upper 70’s to lower and mid 80’s for the entire road trip. Second reason is it is after spring break but before summer break and the summer heat. Along the way we have decided on some basic rules we will attempt to follow.
The rules at this time include the following (list may continue to grow):
- No Fast Food.
- Only motels no chain hotels.
- No cell phone when driving and site seeing.
- Try to stop for the day by 5 pm each afternoon.
- Have fun!
